After finding himself with too much time on his hands, documentarian John Wilson attends a workshop on how to write and sell a Hallmark romcom, an experience that inspires him to apply the exact same commercial formula to an entirely different project: a documentary investigating the history of concrete. Infused with Wilson's trademark curiosity and dry wit, the film introduces him to a colourful array of unusual people and places along the way, evolving into a wry, humane and philosophical meditation on urbanism, the built environment and the mundane textures of everyday American life, marking his feature directorial debut following the acclaimed HBO series How To with John Wilson.
Review:
A dryly funny, deceptively understated meditation on the modern built world, Wilson's trademark curiosity elevating an unlikely subject into something genuinely wry and humane.
