Synopsis:
Mi-ok and her husband Ho-seok, recently laid off from his job, find their lives unexpectedly intertwined with Ye-ji, a documentary filmmaker working on a project about labour and working people, and her affluent businessman husband Sang-woo, following a chance encounter. As the two couples, from starkly different sides of society, are drawn closer together, long-repressed emotions, class tension and hidden desires begin to surface within both marriages, testing the foundations each has built their life upon. Marking acclaimed director Lee Chang-dong's first film since 2018's Burning, the drama won the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize and FIPRESCI Prize at the 2026 Venice Film Festival, and has been selected as South Korea's official submission for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
Review:
A sprawling, novelistically layered drama that begins unassumingly before undergoing a gradual, radical metamorphosis, offering perhaps the most nuanced and thought-through recent cinematic engagement with class conflict, even as its considerable scope demands real patience.
