Set in the 1940s against the backdrop of the British Raj and the Second World War, the film follows a battle-hardened officer of the British Indian Army who defects to join Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's Indian National Army, the Azad Hind Fauj. Rather than a biopic of Bose, it centres on a battalion sent on an extraordinary mission in the struggle for independence, with a romance at its heart. Director Hanu Raghavapudi has likened its emotional core to an alternative take on the Mahabharata – as if Karna had fought on the side of the Pandavas.

Imanvi makes her feature debut opposite Prabhas, with Mithun Chakraborty, Jaya Prada and Anupam Kher in support. Hanu Raghavapudi previously directed the period romance Sita Ramam (2022), also centred on a soldier.
