In the West African-inspired kingdom of Orïsha, magic once flourished, until the ruthless King Saran had it destroyed and its practitioners, the maji, persecuted and killed. Zélie, a young woman whose mother died in the purge, gets one chance to bring magic back. Joined by her brother Tzain and Amari, a princess who has fled her father's court, she sets out on a dangerous quest across the kingdom, pursued by the king's son, Prince Inan, who is torn between duty and the power awakening within him. The long-awaited adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi's best-selling young-adult fantasy novel, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, maker of The Woman King, with an all-star cast.
