Nero is a black cat who makes his living on the streets, canals and rooftops of Venice, moving in a world of shady feline dealings presided over by the formidable mob boss Rocco. But when Maja, a young street artist, takes him in, very much against his will, Nero finds his loyalties tested and starts to wonder whether the life he has always known is really the one he wants.
